April 12, 2021

WALTON COUNTY, Fla— A Freeport man has been arrested following a road rage incident that resulted in a shooting on Sunday, April 4th.

On that afternoon, deputies responded to the intersection of U.S. Highway 331 and Highway 20 following multiple 911 calls regarding shots fired. Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene. One male patient was transported from the scene for his injuries.

Both parties in the altercation were quickly identified. After multiple days of follow-up investigation and gathering evidence it was revealed the shooter, Michael Joseph McClure, 43, of Freeport, knowingly used a deadly firearm during a road rage incident where the other party sustained gunshot wounds to the wrist and leg.

It was determined McClure blocked a lane of travel with his truck to engage in the altercation and fired his weapon at the victim as he turned to run away once the argument escalated. The intersection where the shooting occurred was crowded and McClure’s actions threatened the lives of not just the victim, but others traveling the area.

McClure was arrested Monday, April 12th on active warrants for aggravated battery, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and discharging a firearm in public.

He was given a $5,000 bond and has been bonded out at the time of this release.

John Botelho mug shot

April 13, 2021

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF STATE ATTORNEY GINGER BOWDEN MADDEN FIRST JUDICIAL CIRCUIT OF FLORIDA

State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden announced Tuesday John Kyle Botelho entered a plea and was sentenced by the Honorable Kelvin Wells to 20 years in prison for Aggravated Battery with Great Bodily Harm and a Weapon, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, and Resisting an Officer with Violence. A jury trial was scheduled to begin today, but Botelho elected to enter a plea minutes before opening statements.

On March 31, 2018, Botelho was walking in the area of East Mitchell Avenue west of Point Washington next to the Choctawhatchee Bay. The victim, who was trimming bushes in his front yard with garden shears, saw Botelho walking down the street and waved at him as he walked by. The man didn’t know Botelho and assumed he was just walking to a nearby park. The man went back to work trimming his bushes but suddenly noticed Botelho standing over him. Botelho then proceeded to punch the victim in the face repeatedly and a struggle ensued over the garden shears. During the fight, the garden shears broke with Botelho getting the part with the cutting blades. He then proceeded to repeatedly strike the victim over the head with the garden shears. Another man who was visiting a friend in the neighborhood heard the commotion and came to the victim’s aid. He was able to beat Botelho off the victim. While helping the victim to his house, the man saw Botelho strip all his clothes off and wade into the bay. The victim suffered a lost tooth and had multiple deep cuts to the top and sides of his head

Deputies from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) were dispatched to the scene and found Botelho in about chest-deep water in the bay. He refused all demands for him to return to shore, so a WCSO boat was sent to the scene. Deputies from the boat and from the shore entered the water to arrest Botelho. During his arrest, Botelho grabbed one deputy and attempted to drag him under the water. He also punched, kicked, and grabbed at other deputies. Only after multiple deputies were able to grab hold of him was he arrested and removed from the water.

The investigation and arrest were conducted by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant State Attorney Matthew Richardson prosecuted the case.

Mug shot of a black female with long dreadsApril 16, 2021

PRESS RELEASE OFFICE OF STATE ATTORNEY GINGER BOWDEN MADDEN FIRST JUDICIAL CIRCUIT OF FLORIDA

State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden announced on April 15, 2021, Glenda Travaneisha Hamilton was found guilty of Aggravated Battery with Great Bodily Harm and with a Firearm by Discharging a Firearm and Criminal Mischief by a Walton County jury. Sentencing is currently scheduled for June 22, 2021. Hamilton is facing up to 30 years in prison and is subject to a 25 year minimum mandatory prison sentence under Florida’s 10/20/Life law.

On October 16, 2019, the two victims (a male and a female) went to visit a friend who lived on Howlin Road west of DeFuniak Springs. Unbeknown to the victims, the defendant was staying at this home. Hamilton blamed the male victim for damage to her girlfriend’s vehicle that occurred months earlier during a previous altercation. Hamilton demanded the male victim pay her money for the damage. When he refused, she pulled out the handgun and threatened both victims with it. They both again refused to pay. Hamilton then retrieved a dumbbell from the house and threw it into the female victim’s front windshield shattering it. This resulted in an altercation between the female victim and defendant. The male victim intervened in the altercation and was able to wrestle Hamilton’s handgun from her despite receiving multiple blows to his face that resulted injuries. The defendant then retrieved another handgun from a bystander and shot the male victim three times on the left side of his left leg as he was attempting to enter a vehicle to leave. She then stood over the male victim, pointed the gun at his head, and demanded that he apologize and beg for his life. Once he did, Hamilton left the scene. The male victim suffered a fractured femur and was left with multiple scars from his bullet wounds and a surgery to install a rod in his leg.

Once reported by the victims, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded both to the scene of the shooting and the hospital to investigate the incident and collect evidence. An interview was conducted by WCSO investigators and Hamilton admitted to damaging the female victim’s vehicle, getting into an altercation with the male victim over her gun, and then shooting him in the leg. Hamilton proceeded to record a series of SnapChat videos boasting about making the male victim bleed during their struggle for her gun and then making him beg for his life after she shot him.

The investigation and arrest was conducted by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant State Attorney Matthew Richardson prosecuted the case.

WALTON COUNTY, Fla— A DeFuniak Springs man will face a Federal Judge on charges of meth distribution after a multi-agency investigation.

On April 14, 2021, a joint investigation including Walton County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and personnel from the DEA Panama City Resident Office resulted in the arrest of David Foreman, 55, at his residence on Petunia Lane in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

Foreman’s arrest is following a grand jury indictment that occurred earlier this month in the Northern District of Florida for multiple counts of methamphetamine distribution.

Based on evidence gathered during the investigation and additional evidence seized from Foreman at the time of his arrest, law enforcement obtained a federal search warrant for his residence and property.

A search revealed nearly one pound of crystal methamphetamine, a half-pound of marijuana, $3,811 in U.S. currency, and more than 20 firearms.

Foreman was subsequently arrested, transported to the Walton County Jail, and later turned over to the U.S. Marshal’s Service where he awaits trial in front of a Federal Judge.
