FIRE BREAKS OUT INSIDE LOCAL TRANSFORMER COMPANY; FIREFIGHTERS KNOCK DOWN FLAMES

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla—Joint effort by multiple local fire departments saves local transformer company.

At 11:26 PM on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, Argyle Volunteer Fire Department, Walton County Fire Rescue, DeFuniak Springs Fire Department, Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, and Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call regarding a possible structure fire at Florida Transformer, Inc. in DeFuniak Springs. First responders arrived on scene to find heavy, black smoke coming from inside one of the buildings containing dangerous chemicals and electrical equipment. Knowing an explosion was imminent, firefighters quickly jumped into action.

After cutting off the power to the facility, firefighters entered the building and found flames coming from one of the ovens housing multiple transformers. Walton County Fire Rescue, DeFuniak Springs Fire Department, and Liberty Volunteer Fire Department assisted Argyle Volunteer Fire Department in battling the blaze for several minutes before the fire was finally extinguished. First responders cleared the scene just before 2:00 AM.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
